Dearest Brother Ramanna Anna,

How are you? I am NagaLakshmi Gadiparthi from HEAL India. I remembered the happy day yourself and akka visited me in HEAL. Your visit gave me a lot of confidence.

Within 2 months I will be completing my 9th class. Tenth class is a turning point in life. I am studying hard and getting an aggregate of 80%. We have good Teachers. I like mathematics and Science. After Intermediate I want to do B.Pharmacy. With your support and blessings I hope I can fulfill my aspiration.

On 8th January we had a team of 30 people from England (Cycle India Team). They cycled around 200 miles in India to raise funds and to help the needy children of the HEAL. On that day the HEAL Children were so excited. On that day we celebrated Annual Day celebrations. I was there in Karate. You can see me in the pictures. I hope you like that.

Thank you very much for everything.

Love,
NagaLakshmi Gadiparthi

The new academic year started for us after the summer break.

The summer was very severe with the temperatures rising to almost 45 Celsius and when the rains came in the last week of June we heaved a sigh of relief!

In India the rains are special. They come after scorching heat and bring cool showers. We love to run out to play in the rain and get thoroughly wet!

But first of all the news about the tenth class students who passed High school in first class! Fourteen of them joined Junior College. So this year there are 35 Heal Children who are studying different courses in the local colleges.

We had a lovely surprise when Dr. Sathya Prasad the founder of Heal UK, Carl Brodie, the chairman and Matthew, one of the Directors visited us in June. We spent two delightful days with them.

They are organizing a tour Cycle India which is a unique opportunity to cycle 220 miles from Hyderabad to Guntur to raise funds to build schools for poor children, from 2nd January to 11 January

We are eagerly waiting to receive 25 of these brave cyclists from UK who promised to spend at least three days with us!

We are sending you some of the news clips covering their visit

An Old Age Home was built by Dr. Manga Devi, Secretary to Heal India with the concept that the young and the old living together find solace in each other’s company.

Dr. Sathya Prasad, Carl Brodie and Mathew inaugurated the Old Age Home.

A medical camp was conducted when Heal UK Directors were visiting Heal village.

We are signing off for the present.

We will have even more exciting things to talk about in the next news letter since a number of volunteers from UK are visiting us at various times the next six months!

Bye!

Children from Heal Village

A Happy Occasion as Jyothi gets married.

Jyothi (a young teenager who has no family) came to Guntur on the recommendation of a local Doctor who was known to Manga Devi and asked whether she could stay at one of the cottages where she would be safe. Uninterested in studying, she was given a small job in the school hostel.

Fortunately a young groom was found, and an arranged marriage between Jyoti and Bhagya Rao, (a construction worker, who can earn Rs 120 per day) took place. They are now living in the groom’s house and with a bit luck he can become a mason and earn some more.

It was a very kind gesture on behalf of Manga Devi, Jaya Sri, Principal of Bala Kuteer and Rajaswari an accountant and everyone who arranged and paid for a traditional wedding, pitching in with gifts etc. The grooms parents, brothers and sisters provided all her clothes. All formalities were scrupulously followed.

Our Very Best Wishes to Jyothi and Bhagya for a very happy future.
